Frankly, I use Malwarebyte's Antimalware exclusively. I've had one or two run-ins with minor issues, but I've always dealt with them quickly. It dealt with some issues (quickly and for free) that other programs (Spybot, and others) either failed to detect, could not resolve, or made me jump through the hoops because of false positives.

After hearing everyone out, I decided to renew ESET.
Still seems to be top of the pile as far as gaming is concerned.
