I’m sure many of you have noticed by now that the ODR66 servers are offline. This is a result of the most recent patch, which breaks compatibility with our SourceMod plug-in platform.

I apologize for the outage, but Valve has changed the engine headers, and gave no advance notification to developers, or even bothered to  record any of the changes to the official SDK.

At last count over 1000+ servers were also down as a result of this issue.

I am faced with either

1.) Ripping out SourceMod and restoring the server to defaults, simple, but fixing this later when a patch is available will be hell.

2.) Putting faith in the SourceMod guys to fix the problem tonight (something they claim to be working on).

I appreciate your patience, and hope you will all be back to the server once service is restored!

Some of you may have already noticed the HLstatsX reset that took place today, and many of you have wasted no time rebuilding your rank.

Now is the time to prove your stuff and join the new race to the top. We will be looking closely at the results here on the blog, and as always are looking for feedback on how to improve the stats system.

So the final day is here, will the ODR66 Server #1 shut off at midnight?

NO WAY!

Thanks to the generosity of our many community members server #1 will be alive and well for the foreseeable future. The donations brought us within a few dollars of the required amount (once paypal took their cut), and I chipped in the rest.

Thank you again to everyone who donated, and for helping to keep the dream alive.

Unfortunately we only received one additional donation so far, and if we can’t do better than this, the server cannot remain financially feasable.

I understand that not everybody is in a position to give, so if you cannot donate funds to the server, please donate your time. Get the word out to other members of the community, help draw their attention to ODR66 and do what you can to pitch in.

I would also welcome any suggestions you may have that would help us with the funding issue. I’m strongly considering adding advertisements to the forums and blog to help out as well, though the effect of that wouldn’t be immediate.

It’s time again to push hard going into the 3rd quarter. Thanks to all of your generous donations, ODR66 has never not been able to meet it’s funding requirements, but the renewal time is drawing near, and for the first time we are looking at a significant shortfall.

Our costs at the moment are about $66 for our Pro Gamer 100 tick, 600 FPS tournament grade server + an additional $12 for HLStatsX monitoring. If donation levels can’t match our operating expenses, we may be forced to downgrade our service to cut costs, or even risk shutting down server number one.

As a proud Canadian who has traveled extensively in the United States, I can truly say, you have many things to be proud of. Every American I have ever met has been kind, companionate, and a good friend to be sure.

You and your country have accomplished much in a relatively short period, and  I’m sure you will all enjoy your long weekend!

So it is July 1st again, truly one of my favorite days of the year, up there with Christmas and Gabriel’s Birthday.

2009 has been a pretty good year for ODR66 so far. The server seems to be constantly growing and Server #2 just went public. We seem to have an ever-growing community of good players and a tight group of people keeping it together. It’s good to see a Canadian based group continuing to represent itself so solidly.

And I want you all to remember is that the best sniper in the world is a Canadian. So put away that Huntsman, charge up your rifle, and celebrate your Canada Day by shooting someone in the head.
